Unshakeable Confidence in Sports: Bounce Back After Errors

As a seasoned athlete, you most likely understand the meaning of “winning ugly.” At the heart of winning ugly lies an unshakeable belief in yourself and your abilities. It lies in your confidence. It’s not about being arrogant, but having belief in your skills, your preparation, and your ability to face and rise above challenges or setbacks. You weather the storms and push forward despite the roadblocks in your way.

As we enter into performance, it’s a blast when things are going well and we are playing up to our potential, but that’s not always the case. A huge stepping stone into becoming an incredible athlete is learning to embrace imperfection. We acknowledge our flaws and experience freedom from a fear of failure.

Rather than seeing setbacks or mistakes as roadblocks standing in between you and success, we view them as an opportunity for growth. We reflect, we develop plans to improve, and we realize that this is part of a performer’s journey.

We start with awareness. We get to know our strengths, acknowledge our weaknesses, and then set goals and get to work becoming the player we aim to be.

I’m guessing you’ve spent tons of time training physically, but if you’re ready to start training mentally, let me know! I’m offering one-on-one mental skills training sessions for elite youth, high school, and college athletes. Learn more here or book a consultation today!
